GERALD KAHLBACHER

Hi, my Name is Gerald Kahlbacher, I am 25 years old and I am from Carinthia, Austria. I am working at the ÖBB where I have to check all kind of trains before they are going to leave the train station.

In my freetime I prefer to go climbing or mountaineering in summer, and to go skiing and ice climbing in winter.

As a child, I always went hiking with my dad and I also spent a lot of my time in the fascinating woods and rock landscapes of the small village where I live.

Later when I was supposed to get to the Military, I met my current climbing Partner Peter Schoitsch who became my best Friend. With him I started to do higher peaks, an he also coached me climbing and alpine climbing.

In the year 2016 we both did the “Hochtouren Instruktor” where we had 3 weeks of training. At this time, I also collected knowledge in ice climbing, glacier crossing, rescue techniques and guiding people.

A little bit later we both become member of the so called “Team Alpin Kärnten” from the carinthian Nature friend. This gave me an opportunity to experience a couple tours, expeditions and summits, especially in Switzerland.

In August this year we had our biggest project there. In a few days we made 11 peaks above 4000 meters which was so stunning and powerful to me.

I hope do this sport as long as possible, because it frees my mind and makes me happy at all.
